Community Odour Monitoring Program

Community Odour Monitoring Program

The WBEA’s Community Odour Monitoring Program seeks to gain a better understanding of how odour events relate to air quality in our region. The WBEA developed an App that allows community members to submit information about the odours they experience. This information is submitted to a database, which is compared to the ambient air data collected at the WBEA’s ambient air monitoring stations throughout the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Our aim is to determine if there are any relationships or trends that can be identified in the ambient air data when an odour is present.

It’s easy to get involved:

  • Download our Community Odour Monitoring Program app at
  • When you smell an odour in the air, report it through the app

Click to view the locations of all our ambient air monitoring stations. The hourly data collected at each station is posted, in near real-time, to each individual station page.
