CURRENT WILDFIRES & HAZARD UPDATE – SEPTEMBER 29, 2011

The wildfire approximately 20 kilometres south of Fort McMurray (MWF 075) is classified as under control at 581 hectares. This means that the fire has received enough suppression action to ensure no further spread. Two helicopters, 80 firefighters and various heavy equipment are on scene today.
The fireguard is complete and crews will reinforce the guard today and extinguish hot spots (smouldering embers found in the ground).
Highway 63 is open to traffic. Please respect the speed limit of 50 km/hr. Crews are working in the area and walking on the roadside; the speed limit is in place to protect their safety and yours. Additionally, smoke may be present in the area so visibility may be impacted.
The three remaining wildfires in the Waterways area, Richardson Fire, MacKay Fire and MWF 010, are all classified as under control.
