Current Wildfires & Hazard Update - September 26, 2011

There is a wildfire burning approximately 20 kilometres south of Fort McMurray. If you have concerns about smoke-related health issues please visit myhealth.Alberta.ca or dial Health Link Alberta: 1-866-408-LINK-(5465).

At this time, there is no threat to the community from the wildfire. The wildfire is approximately 581 hectares in size. RCMP have closed Highway 63 northbound but highway 881 remains open at this time. For road closure information please visit the AMA website at: http://bit.ly/fsn7GI or call: (877) 262-4997.

Temperatures were low and humidity was high over night. Fire behaviour has diminished significantly because of this. Bulldozers are creating a fire guard and expect to have some of the fire contained. There are approximately 50 firefighters working on this fire right now and more are expected to arrive throughout the day.

Winds are expected to increase this afternoon coming out of the west, culminating in 30-40 kilometre-an-hour winds.

Please dial 1-866-916-4636 for more information related to this wildfire.
