The Buffalo Viewpoint Station is located at the south end of Syncrude's South Mine (Latitude, Longitude: 56.996265, -111.59410167). This station became part of the WBEA's network in 1997.
The Buffalo Viewpoint station contains analyzers that continuously measure Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), Total Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), Nitric Oxide(NO), Total Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Total Hydrocarbons (THC), Ozone (O3), Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5), wind speed and direction, visibility, relative humidity, and temperature. At Buffalo Viewpoint, the WBEA also operates samplers for the non-continuous parameters Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), ions, coarse and fine particulate matter, Speciation Air Sampling (SASS), and Carbonyls on behalf of Environment and Climate Change Canada.
